Welcome to the official website for Mechanics Hall
"The showpiece of a city
where the arts thrive."
- Horizon Magazine
Built
in 1857 by the Worcester County Mechanics Association, Mechanics Hall
is known as the nation's finest pre-Civil War concert hall. Ideally located
in downtown Worcester, the second largest city in New England, the Hall
was completely restored in 1977.
Mechanics Hall is one of
the world's finest concert halls. Internationally regarded for its superb
acoustics, the Hall boasts a celebrity list that includes Thoreau and Dickens,
Caruso and Dvorak, Teddy Roosevelt and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Yo Yo Ma
and Itzak Perlman, Mel Torme and Ella Fitzgerald. Mechanics Hall is home to
the Worcester Music Festival, the oldest music festival in the nation, founded
in 1859.
Its 19th Century elegance,
modern amenities, superior acoustics and red carpet service make it the
preferred location for private galas, musical
performances, business meetings and
professional recording studios. The modern
mission of the Worcester County Mechanics Association is to preserve Mechanics
Hall as a performance center, and to ensure that everyone in the community
enjoys use of the building. It is a prime rental venue for public and private
events.
Mechanics Hall is a non-profit
organization and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
